Haha, by the way, this very friend's old house DID have holes in the wall: the modem was located in the basement and had 16 cables going through the wall going to who-knows-where.

Ah, I use my own Wi-Fi, but sometimes my laptop connects to the neighbor's, because they keep it in their garage (they converted to an office) and their garage is only three feet from my window.

At my dad's apartment, I just gave up trying to find his Wi-Fi signal, the neighbors on both sides, above him and below him all have their own Wi-Fi, so I just pick a random one. :P

What, they don't have Wi-Fi in Europe? :o
I always thought Western Europe had Wi-Fi everywhere.

I'd say his problem was that Germany, as far as I know, has become particularly stringent on illegal downloading recently.

Is there any other kind? I don't remember buying any legal software since... wait, I never bought any legal software in my life now that I think about it. And I haven't bought any software for years now. I download everything for free like everyone else does.

Uhm...That's bad, you've never bought software? Ever? I guess Slovakia's piracy laws aren't very strict if you've never bought any software.
