What do you call this decade? The "thousands"? The "early two-thousands"? I should have asked this question earlier, as the decade is almost over. But what will this decade be called in retrospect? Maybe it will be called "the turn of the century decade".

"The Oughts"

I just avoid it. Notice that no one knows what to call the years from 1900-1909 or 1800-1809 (etc...). I guess its just a peculiarity. Its the same with decades like 2010-2019 and the like.

On another note do you think that people will call the decade from 2020-2029 the twenties (and so on through the rest of the century) or something else. If we do will we get them confused with the 1920's?

Do you think people confused the 1920s with the 1820s? Or the 1990s with the 1890s? It won't be too long before references to the 2020s will outnumber references to the 1920s. The shorter term will come to mean "twenty twenties" and a retronym will come into use for the 1920s. "The Roaring Twenties" will always mean the 1920s, of course. (Some wags went around calling the 1990s "the Gay Nineties", but it never caught on among most queers, let alone the general public.)
