Hello, can someone please translate this for me?

loca in ferna in nocte
loca in ferna in nocte
animae in nebula

media nox obscura nox
crudelitas animarum
campana sonat
duo decies

I know nox means night and nebula is fog, I generally understand the meaning but searching the net I found various 'translations' which differ from eachother. I would appreciate it if someone could translate from Latin to English :) Thanks

Maybe it's Vulgar Latin? I can't think of a cognate with ferna in any Romance language though.

Inferna means "lower, subterranean". What we have here is a misdivision.

Loca looks like an erroneous plural for locum "place". (Despite the neuter ending, the plural is loci, just as it is for the more common masculine form, locus.) The corrected version, loci inferni in nocte would mean "infernal places in the night".

So it's Dog Latin, not Vulgar Latin.

Really? The vocabulary involved is pretty basic even if the grammar is somewhat bolloxed.

animae in nebula

"souls in fog"

media nox obscura nox

"midnight, dark night"

crudelitas animarum

"the cruelty of souls"

campana sonat duodecies

"the bell sounds twelve times"

(Campana is Late Latin. Literally, it means "from Campania", which was a centre of bell manufacture in late Roman times. The sense of "soul" for anima is also relatively late; earlier meanings included "current of air" and "[exhaled] breath".)

Hehe...think twice (or more) about that one...I'm starting to get quite bored with the language. :P Still, if you like it, why not try :)
