Zulu's tones are in a similar position as Cherokee's. Most learners ignore them (and I'm pretty sure some dialects don't even HAVE the tones, it's just pitch accent, but don't hold me to that) and they only effect a handful of words.

Languages I already know:
* Norwegian (native)
* English
* German
* (Esperanto)

I'll just keep reading stuff in these languages to build up vocabulary. Esperanto is very low-priority, though; since I learned it some years ago, I've realized what a failure it is.

Languages I'm definitely going to learn:
* Chinese (Mandarin)
* Spanish

My main focus is Chinese. I'm going to buy a course for it in a couple of weeks. I'll try to learn some basic Spanish grammar and vocabulary for free on the Internet - my current goal is only passive comprehension without paying for it

Languages I might learn:
* Russian
* Arabic
* Latin
* Old Norse

French is also an important language, but I don't want to learn it because I hate the pronunciation. Maybe I'll take a look at Indonesian too, since it's supposed to be so easy.

Some months ago someone brought the topic in Unilang when discussing Rosetta Stone, and someone else said there was a version of Zulu and it was ok, except that it didn't taught you the tones so they had to be learned by paying a lot of attention to the native speaker that made the recordings.

I want to master MSA, Classical Arabic and one or more dialects eventually (probably Levantine or maybe Arabian) so that's plenty challenging for now.

I also want to become proficient in Hebrew, more to read the language than speak it because I dislike Modern Hebrew, but I will become proficient in it too (albeit not with the standard accent).

After that I should really branch out a bit so I could pick up French again, always worth knowing in Canada, and maybe try my hand at something challenging like Japanese after I'm done all this.

Is there anyone here apart from me who is region biased? Or maybe language group biased? I see people here mostly each want to learn a number of diverse language from different parts of the world.

No, there aren't any languages from a certain region i wouldn't learn, but the only group I don't really like is Romance, except Latin.

Those are the ones I'll most likely learn fluently.

Possibly, in order of possibility:
Manx/Northern Sami (same probability)
Latin
Tok Pisin, quite possibly, I think it's cool.
Quite possibly some Old Norse, it's pretty sexy.
Maybe Persian, it's pretty cool.
I also want to maybe learn either Latvian or Lithuanian, I can't decide which though.

Less possibly:
Mandarin
Arabic
Low possibility: Some Native American language, like Cherokee or Lakota.
