Hi,

As an artist in Switzerland I am currently working on a series of paintings in which the concept “empathy” will be included in various different languages so as to engender empathy among the various peoples of the world.

Wiki: Empathy: The capacity to know emotionally what another is experiencing from within the frame of reference of that other person, the capacity to sample the feelings of another or to put one's self in another's shoes.

Could you be so kind as to assist me in providing me with its translation in any other language you may know? ("Uncommon" languages very much welcomed!)

Note: French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portugese I already know.

Thank you very much!

Manuel Heer Dawson

Empathy is 同理心 in both Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

Empathy may translate as Yekdely or Hamdely in Persian
Yekdely = یکدلی
Hamdeli= همدلی
In Azerbaijani they say the word as empati or şəfqət but you can say also : Bir olmaq or Bir Olmakh wich means: to become one. şəfqət means more like sympathy.
in Kurdish we have هاودڵی or هاوسۆزی/hevsojî , haw del'y or haw sozi/haw soji ,which is like Persian.
and in Urdu it's ہمدردی ham dardi.
in Arabic you can say تعاطف Ta'atof .but there are more words in Arabic.

Hi,
In Russian it is - 'сочувствие'
In Ukrainian - 'спочуття' or 'спiвчуття' (which is the same)

But it is used mostly to describe empathy for the person who is in trouble

In Dutch we simply say "empathie", but you could also say "invoelingsvermogen".
