I know nobody's using this thread right now, but I thought I'd reply anyway.
Learned enough: English (native)
Fairly fluent: French
Can sort of speak: Spanish
Taking lessons: Latin
Sing in and sort of understand: Old Italian
Can sort of read: German, Dutch, other Germanic languages
Used to know: Russian, Hebrew, some sort of Arabic thingy
Too controversial to specify: Welsh
Not sure of anything: Gaelic (no, I don't mean Irish, I mean all three languages in its family), Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese
Conlangs I'm working on most: Tikolmian, Leafoosish
Just to be clear, I'm not really "learning" any of these languages actively (except for Latin and the conlangs), and a lot of them I don't really know at all. I'm just having my fun making a list of languages I've sort of paid attention to over the years.

Posting to say that Welsh has gone from "too controversial" to "learning currently". See my signature for how badly I know it now.

I'm learning Portuguese now. I thought it would be easy because I know Spanish, but jeez, Portuguese pronunciation is so hard. :

Isn't it! I'm not learning Portuguese, but I know the vowels are kind of funny compared with those of Spanish.

where i live Spanish is very prominent so ive picked up a very basic understanding.

My goal is to learn all the romance languages:
-Latin
-Spanish
-Italian
-French (maybe)
-English (native)
Are German and Porteguese Romance languages? I'm not sure.

Plus i want to learn a couple other just because.

English and German are both officially considered Germanic languages. Portuguese, however, is indeed a Romance language.
Other Romance languages you might be interested in include:
Catalan
Galician
Romanian
Sicilian

Where a language lies in a language family depends more on syntax and morphology than anything else. Lexicon, surprisingly, doesn't count much.

As for myself, it would be nice to become fluent in Spanish, though given my location in the world, I don't have many opportunities to practice. And it really makes me cringe when people do stuff like say /paɪˈɛlə/ instead of /paˈeʎa/. *shudder*

I also have a deeply invested interest in Old Norse.

Okay i just looked at a list. My idea of Romance languages was completely wrong.

Newbie here. I also suffer from "polyglossophilia" and it seems unfortunately there is no cure. Languages that I have seriously considered learning include:

Gothic
Shoshoni
Comanche
Hawaiian
French
Cajun French
Chinook Wawa
...and I'm sure there are quite a few others that I have forgotten. Lately I have been trying to sort out what I would really like to get out of learning languages and attempt to make a plan for learning and utilization. So many languages, so little time!

You should check out the shorthand system (a derivative of Duployan shorthand) designed for it. It's called Chinook writing or Wawa shorthand.

As for learning all those languages... Well, that's a pretty ambitious list! Not only are some of those languages fairly tough to learn, there's also not a lot of information on some of them. For example, good luck trying to learn Gothic. It's an extinct language; the only record we have of it is a small number of historical texts written in the tongue, and various references from other documents.



Romance languages are those with syntax and morphology derived from Latin. Some languages obviously, are debatable, but have still been officially categorized anyway. I'm curious, though - what was your previous definition of a Romance language?
