Okay, I've had a new idea. I was thinking the other day about the Cyrillic alphabet and that I like the capital letters but not the small letters, as they are, let's face it, rather boring! They're literally just smaller versions of the capitals. So I've invented an alphabet that could be used for writing English (particúlarly Received Pronunciation) which is based upon the Cyrillic alphabet but has nicer, more cursive-looking miniscúles. I've designed it in such a way that it can be typed on a computer using just the Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Armenian and IPA letters and symbols, and it actúally, in my opinion, looks quite nice. I've named it Latillic, after its main donors, the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets.
Dúe to the lack of rendering support on some browsers I amn't sure if this will show up properly, but I'll have a go at converting the above paragraph into Latillic:
Ukȷ, ր'b xad a hŭю րdul. Я րoз þıŋkıŋ δu уδl dȷ aɓʊt δu Cıpıηık aηφaɓɛt ahd δat ր ηրk δu kanıtlη ηɛtlз ɓуt hot δu cmɔη ηɛtlз, aз δȷ ɦ, ηɛtc φȷc ıt, pɦδl ɓɔpıŋ! Я xab hȷmd ıt Лatıηık, ɦφtl ıtc mȷh dվhlз, δu Лatıh ahd Cıpıηık aηφaɓɛtc.
So, what does the collective think? I've had to change one of the symbols above from what it should be: for the phoneme /ŋ/, instead of the letter eng there should be a letter "haitch-with-hook", which you can get in IPA but apparently not on here.
Some of my assignments may seem a little strange, particularly the Armenian ones; all I've done with those is found myself in need of a readily available letter and then picked one at random from said alphabet, regardless as to its usual Armenian pronunciation.
I'd be interested in nay comments anyone has, and particularly if anyone has done anything similar in the past?
