Usually my conscripts (none of which are fully developed) come from random scribblings I make while not paying attention to something I'm supposed to be listening to . I don't really use them for any specific purpose.

haha Jayan that sounds like me I usually get most my scripts in class, when I'm supposed to be paying attention Oh well, at least I'm doing something productive! xD
I make my scripts for all those reasons you mentioned, Simon

My con-script evolved out of my own handwriting that I just decided to make crazy one day. I figured that if I made my handwriting fun to write then I'd enjoy taking notes in class a lot more. Now though I use it to jot down my random thoughts that I wouldn't want anyone else to read in class, and also for decoration.
For fun, for a challenge and cyphers are really fun. Aside from just keeping my mind busy I like to write secret messages to friends (who have a copy of the code) and it helps me to relax before a big math test!
I invent conscripts for a novel I'm currently writing - though I must admit I've gone a bit wild. I invented a whole series of writing systems, more than I'll ever be able to use in the novel without driving my readers mad. So maybe I'm trying to find a good and objective reason to keep inventing them, while I actually just like the act of creation .
