What language/writing system is used here.

See picture attached. It is part of a puzzle and will give coordinates at the end. It should start with North Thirty-three most likely. Although the text looks German I doubt that is the whole story.

Two questions:
1) What language/writing system is used here
2) Any tricks or quick overview to scan a large number of alphabet or writing styles to match a text to an alphabet?

Thank you

After zooming in on the image, I'm not certain it isn't anything more than a disguised cursive Roman script.

According to James Isaacs (via email), this is a cursive German script known as Sütterlin, a late Prussian variant of Kurrent (also known as Kurrentschrift or Alte Deutsche Schrift), the cursive form of Fraktur.
