As an everyday language, Aramaic is now safe only in one place: the Christian village of Maaloula, in the hills outside Damascus, where elders still teach it to their children. Aramaic was the common tougue of the MIddle East when the Middle East was the crossroads of the world. People used it from Egypt and the Holy Land to India and China.

For some odd definition of "safe" that includes regions engulfed in sectarian civil strife.

i'd say full blown war, but yeah
