Benvenuto al angolo dell'Italia! Possiamo ciatare della lingua italiana, e la tutta dell'Italia! :) Ho studiato italiano per molto tempo, ma non sono correntemente (adesso :lol: )! Ancora, posso aiutare vi! Vi piaciete le musiche italiane? Ci sono molta opera italiana, e molta musica pop (ma mi non piaccio pop).

Welcome to the Italian corner! We can talk about italian, and everything about Italy! :) I've studied Italian for a long time, but I'm not fluent (now :lol: )! Still, I can help you! Do you like Italian music? There are a lot of Italian operas, and a lot of pop (but I don't like pop).

OPA ?

While on holiday in Italy, I saw several monuments in cathedral grounds with the caption "OPA" on them.
I could not find what this meant. Even the Italians I asked did not know what it meant. (They are probably not memorials to German grandfathers!).
The best I could think of was something along the lines of "Ora Pro ?"
Can anyone help me with this?

My best guess is that it stands for opera, referring to the commissioning by the Church. See also:
