...Once these sounds are memorized, reading becomes much easier. English being the language melting-pot that it is, there are always some rule-breakers to be memorized as well; like "says" and "ballet". However, the majority of words fall into the phonetic category (thankfully) and can be mastered in 6 months to a year depending on the student's background and environment.
