Here is a recording of a mystery language. Can you guess or do you know which language it is and where it’s spoken?
This language is written with its own alphabet.
That is Sinhalese/Sinhala (සිංහල) spoken in Sri Lanka by about 16,000,000 people.
I think the dialogue is from http://www.speaksinhala.com/
I think Tamil.
Matt is right – the language is Sinhala/Sinhalese, which is spoken mainly in Sri Lanka, and the recording does come from Let’s Speak Sinhala.
Well Sinhala is most greatly influenced by Tamil. It even lost the distinction between aspirated and unaspirated sounds. Also, it has inherited the destinction between short and long e and o which is not found in any other Indo-Aryan language (save for Divehi, Sinhala’s closest relative).
