Today’s quiz is a bit different. The question is, what do you call the (red and black) canvas canopies over the windows in the photo?
I could easily google the answer, but just want to see if any of you know it without googling. If you don’t know, why not make something up?
I don’t know what these things are called in English or any other language, so I’m interested to see what you come up with.

I would call that an “awning”.
Without looking at any previous answers, I would describe it as a “small rounded awning”, as my canonical image of an awning is larger and rectangular, but shares the feature of fabric protecting from the sun.

Since it’s in Montréal, how about ‘paupière’ [eyelid], since (to my mind at least), they look a bit like them. They have had a heavy application of eye make-up!

In Spanish would this be a “toldo” or are they always much bigger?
I thought of toldo but, yes, to my mind that’s something bigger. But then my idea of an awning is also something larger than these.
In Swedish we’d call this “markis”, from French “marquise”, feminine form of “marquis”. It seems to be used in that sense in a lot of languages, including English.
