Language quiz
Here’s a recording in a mystery language. Do you know or can you guess which language it is?
Clue: this is a Native American language.
By the way, I’m trying to find a solution to the problems on the forum, but have yet to find anything that works. Suggestions are welcome.

Getting any more exact than language family isn’t going to be easy.
My first guess is something Algonquian, (Cree, Ojibwe, Blackfoot something like that.)
But I also think it just might be Souian (Lakota, etc)
At any rate, I’m pretty sure it’s from the northern third of the US (or adjoining parts of Canada) not from east of the Great Lakes or west of Montana.

I’m going to guess that it’s an Athabaskan language, perhaps a southern Athabaskan language.

For the sake of statistical likelihood I would guess that it’s Navajo. For the sake of the Native American language of the area I grew up in, I would guess Chumash.

And, btw, Chumas is not a native american language :-D

I thought that I heard “Lakota” a couple of times in the recording, so I’ll go with that.

Definitely not Navajo (which has two tones about a half-step apart) or the Eskimo/Aleut family (phonology and morphology just don’t sound right). For better or worse, I cast my lot the Sioux/ Lakota contingent.

At first I thought Apache. After looking at the phonology on Omniglot and comparing with the recording I agree with Lakota / Sioux.

The language is indeed Lakota Sioux (Lakʻota), which is spoken in northern Nebraska, southern Minnesota, North and South Dakota and north eastern Montana, and also in Canada
