Tsonga is a member of the Bantu branch of Niger-Congo language family. It is spoken by about 3.6 million people, who call themselves the Shangaan. The majority of Shangaan live in the Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa, where Tsonga is one of the official languages. There are also speakers of Tsonga in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Swaziland.
