Phonogic alphabet

The Phonogic alphabet is the creation of Charles Smith (Roasted_Beanie@msn.com), a student at the University of Minnesota. Charles has been interested in inventing alphabets since his senior year at high school and has invented a variety of alphabets since then. He started working on Phonogic in 2002 with a view to producing an alternative alphabet for English. The name is a combination of the words phonetic and logical and is pronounced [fəˈnɑʤɪk].

Notes

The second letter, the "changer letter," is used to change a letter's sound. It does not have its own sound. For example, the letter j [ʤ] plus the changer makes the [ʧ] sound. The letters in the fourth row are two-letter alternatives to the single-letter representations found in the first three rows.
The letter [ʌ] is used in stressed syllables only, while the letter [ə] is used only in unstressed syllables whose pronunciation can vary, such as: chicken, above, human.
Under the vowels labeled "English vowels", the vowels in red are used for English only, due to the fact that the pronunciations of these vowels can vary greatly between different dialects (e.g. American vs. British), while the others are rather fixed for the most part. The "International vowels" are used for languages other than English.
The letter ł nasalizes the vowel preceding it, like the example in the chart.
