For example, you may prefer a cruise that has certain ports of call at places that you would like to explore for a few hours. Plan a cruise around the number ofpeople embarking and whether children are also part of the group.

Types of cruise ships Packages You can opt for a variety of cruise packages, depending on the duration you wish to spend at sea. You could book a

very basic cruise package for a family vacation at sea for the duration of three to four days. It would include plenty of fun-filled activities for all members. A weeklong cruise as part of a premium package is an option for those who prefer a more leisurely voyage with better accommodation standards than in the basic package. Those who wish for longer voyages of two weeks or more often book luxury cruise packages that provide for more elegant accommodation and dining options. Beware, however! This option could just mean craning-your-neck-type-of-view from the porthole window! So then maybe you would prefer a cabin that has a verandah. This would be more expensive, since the cabin will be larger in area, with possibly a sitting area in the verandah, to enjoy the magnificent views of the rising and setting Sun. For those with a larger budget, there is the option of enjoying a cruise in the more spacious comforts of a suite. This roomy cabin will have its own separate space for lounging on a sofa, distinct from the actual sleeping area. The additional facilities will include enjoying movies on the DVD player, sipping a cold drink from the mini-refrigerator, and easy access to the World Wide Web. As you can see, there are plenty of options when selecting a cabin. You can also decide if you would like a cabin on the lower deck (fewer dollars, but more engine noise), upper deck (more dollars, but more shakes during the voyage), somewhere in-between (that is, midship most stable), towards the front (youll literally have a rocking time!), or towards the rear (best views from the balcony).

Nautical Tips When you book many months in advance of the voyage, you can save plenty more dollars than if you were to book barely a month before the sailing date. As mentioned earlier, you can sail in the midst of winter or at the height of summer but these are the very times when cruise ships charge more. Check out the climatic conditions before making reservations. Regarding reaching the place from which the ship will set sail: Most travel experts advise you to book the airline tickets to the place where you need to embark through the cruise ships travel agent himself. Find out if you can enjoy water sports, such as snorkeling, as part of the cruise package, or whether there are extra charges for such activities. Ask the cruise agent if there are any offshore activities, such as trekking. At the time of booking, make a request to see a detailed plan of the ships decks, so you can select your cabin. Find out if there is some specific night when a dress code is required at dinnertime. You can accordingly include the necessary clothes at the outset itself, and not feel embarrassed later. Dont forget to pack essential items! These include your travel documents, essential medications, a first aid kit, sunglasses, camera, extra batteries, a flashlight, appropriate clothing depending on the climateand plenty of other stuff that cannot be listed fully here due to lack of space!
