Denton is a city in Denton Country, Texas. The geographical location of city is 3312′59″N, 977′45″W . The city covers an area of 161.4 square kilometer with only 2.1 square kilometer as water. City has a population of 80,537 excluding student population with density of 505.7 persons per square kilometer. The current mayor of denton is Perry McNeill. Denton is also the Region VI headquarters of Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Denton is also known as Redbud Capital of Texas because denton has many beautiful redbud trees. These trees flower in spring and are also known by the name of Judas tree. Denton is like a diversified world offering great fun factor potential. On one hand it have historical courthouse and quaint town-square on other hand it have Texas Motor Speedway. Some of the main festivals celebrated by people are Twilight Tunes, Dog Days of Summer, Cinco de May, The Denton Jazz and Arts festival
History of Denton:
Denton is a part of Golden Triangle of Texas. The other two cities of Golden triangle are Ft. Worth and Dallas. City got its name in the memory of John B. denton a great preacher and lawyer. The graveyard of John B. Denton is in downtown square. Dentons graveyard was erected in 1896 and again restored in 1987. The city was incorporated in 1856.

Earlier the population of denton increased mainly because of agricultural growth. According to 2000 census population of city was 80,537 excluding 40,000 students studying in universities. But according to census bureau it was 104,153 (excluding 40,000 students studying in universities).It is one of the fastest growing cities of US. Different races residing in Denton are White, African American, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Hispanics and Latinos.
