Delaware County Pa, also known by the name Delco, is a county situated in the American state of Pennsylvania. In the year 2000, the population of the region was 5,50,864. Delaware County was formed on the 26th of September, 1789. Since 1851, the county seat of Delaware is situated at Media. Prior to 1851, Chester city was the county seat of Delaware County.
Socioeconomically, the population of Delaware County varies from the working class communities and the economically depressed communities as the Borough of Darby and the City of Chester to posh neighborhoods of Villanova and Radnor Township. As much as 2600 acres of the nation is occupied by the Ridley Creek State park. As per the American Census bureau, the total area of the county is 494 square kilometers of which 17 square kilometer of it is water and 477 square kilometer of it is land.

Delaware County is conventionally conservative in nature and has repeatedly voted for the Republican Party in each election from 1854 till the year 1988. However, in the recent elections, the political trends have become Democratic. This was evident when in the 2004 presidential elections, John Kerry, the democratic presidential candidate won by 14 points.
Although in the American senate election in the year 2004, Arlen Specter of the Republican Party defeated Joe Hoeffel of Democratic Party, the tables turned in 2006 when Bob Casey of the Democratic Party managed to beat Rick Santorum. Similarly, in the American House of Representatives, the Democratic challenger of Delaware County, Joe Sestak managed to defeat Curt Weldon, the Republican Congressman.
Till May 2007, the number of registered voters in the Delaware County managed to reach 3, 81,596 of which 53.34 % were pro-republican and 35.32 % had Democratic leanings while 11.33 % had leanings to other parties.
