Boston is the capital of commonwealth of Massachusetts and largest city in New England. Boston is one of the most important culturally significant cities. It is also recognized as one of the global cities in America. It is a center for higher education and health care. With its booming economy, people in Boston have a lavish lifestyle. Moreover it has the highest cost of living in United States and a highly cultural city. There are major annual events in Boston. They comprise of the following:
St. Patrick's day: The St Patrick day falls on march 17, but it is also celebrated as an evacuation day which is a local holiday marking the expulsion of British troops from the city on march 17, 1776 . Ironically, Boston has the largest Irish population outside Ireland.
Boston Marathon day: It is the oldest marathon in the world, which started in 1897. It runs on holiday that memorizes Paul Revere's ride in 1775.The race starts from the Hopkinton to the Copley square. Part of the commonwealth avenue and the surrounding area are kept closed for that day. The battles between the Lexington and concord had revolutionized the race and added to the popularity of the race.
Cow parade: Local artist in Boston parade the life size versions of cows, which are displayed around the city. Later, by evening they all are herded together which are to be sold at the auction. This has become the favorite charity event benefiting the society.
Boston pride: It is the second largest event in the city after Fourth of July. Everyone comes out with the fantastic parade from the Copleys square.through the south end till the Boston common. Around this time many other events also occur.
Independence Day: It is on the fourth day of July, which is celebrated as an Independence Day. Around the day there are various events that occur and start with the Boston pops concert on the Esplanade.It is the oldest and the largest public celebration of the 4th in the country. It has become the premier event that is celebrated on the 4th of July. It holds the world record for the largest crowd to attend a classical concert.
The Feast of St Anthony: It is the biggest of the several other feasts that occurs in Boston. It happens on the north end of Boston. It includes lot of food vendors, games and music.On the parade of Hanover streets fireworks are done on the waterfront.
The head of Charles regatta: It is one of the largest two day rowing event in America. Over 8000 rovers around the globe come here to compete in this event. The event occurs on the banks of Charles River.
Other events:
Boston has very lively crowd that gathers in large numbers for the events. It is also the birthplace of the punk rock and Boston has contributed greatly to the punk rock music. It also gathers large amount of crowds. Besides, there are various other sport events that happen throughout the year mainly basketball events like the American league, which are crowd pullers.
